Tip of the Day 8: Bleach it Out

Water can quickly become contaminated and unsafe to drink after a large scale disaster situation, and taking steps towards the safe consumption of it is an absolute must.

  1. Bleach is a valuable commodity to have on hand in a disaster situation. It can be used for many things, treating water for potable consumption is just one of the major advantages. Liquid bleach can sterilize all hard surface area’s such as cooking or a medical treatment area. Also Bleach can sterilize those surgical instruments before use.
    However, i have read that liquid bleach, (sodium hypochlorite) can NOT be stored long term as liquid bleach loses it’s shelf life rapidly after 6 months. Long term storage is only possible with dry powdered bleach as in swimming pool chlorine available at pool supply company’s
